Google Drive Storage Analyzer

Know exactly what's filling your Drive: which file types, which large files, how much is duplicates or files nobody uses. Then clean up the right places instead of deleting at random.

The Wistorix Google Drive storage analyzer shows what's taking up space: which file types, which large files, and how much is duplicates or files nobody has opened in a long time. Then you clean up the right groups instead of deleting at random.

‍

Storage by file type

‍

Wistorix breaks your storage down by type: images, videos, audio, documents, spreadsheets, presentations, PDFs and archives. On many Drives, videos and archives take up most of the space even though there are only a few of them.

‍

Filter by size

‍

Filters for under 10MB, 10 to 100MB and over 100MB show the large files right after a scan. Dealing with a handful of files over 100MB usually frees more space than deleting hundreds of small documents.

‍

Old, duplicate and empty files on one screen

‍

The dashboard brings together the groups you can clean up: files not opened in 90 days, 180 days or 1 year, duplicates, empty files and orphaned files. Each group shows a file count and its size, so you can choose what's worth doing first.

‍

Your files versus shared files

‍

Only files you own count against your storage. The storage analyzer separates your own storage from files shared with you, so you don't waste time on files that belong to someone else.

‍

How to analyze your Google Drive storage

‍

  1. Scan your Drive. Install the Wistorix Chrome extension, sign in and run a scan. Scanning is free and unlimited.
  2. Read the dashboard. See your storage by file type, by size and by the groups you can clean up.
  3. Start with the biggest group. Begin with files over 100MB and duplicates, then files nobody uses. Export a report if you need to share it with your team.

‍

How it differs from Google's storage page

‍

The Google One storage page shows your total storage split across Drive, Gmail and Photos, and sorts files by size. It doesn't group duplicates, filter out files nobody uses or separate shared files. How to read Google's own numbers is covered in our guide to checking your Google Drive storage. The Wistorix storage analyzer takes the next step and points to the groups worth cleaning up.

‍

How Wistorix keeps your data safe

‍

  • Wistorix reads file metadata only, never file contents
  • It never deletes a file on its own. Every action runs only after you confirm

Frequently asked questions

‍

Does the storage analyzer include Gmail and Photos?

‍

No. Wistorix analyzes files in Google Drive. Gmail and Google Photos share the same quota but are managed in their own apps.

‍

Why hasn't my storage gone down after deleting files?

‍

Deleted files sit in the Trash and still count against your storage until the Trash is emptied or 30 days pass.

‍

Can I export a storage report?

‍

Yes. Wistorix can export a report after each scan.

‍

Is the storage analysis free?

‍

Yes. Scanning and viewing the dashboard is always free.
